Midfielder Dana East will play for Richmond next year after the Club completed a trade with Fremantle in the final moments of the trade period.
East arrives at Richmond along with selection No. 63 and Fremantle’s future third-round selection.
In exchange, Richmond has traded the Dockers' selection No. 40, Gold Coast’s future third-round selection and North Melbourne’s future fourth.
The 23-year-old has played 49 AFLW games for the Dockers, including eight this year, where she averaged 14 disposals, five tackles and two clearances.
East was a former West Australian junior basketball captain before switching to football in her draft year and parachuting up draft boards to be selected at 31 overall (fourth in WA).
The tough midfielder has continually impressed for the Dockers across her five seasons at AFLW level with consistently strong tackling and clearance numbers.
Richmond AFLW List and Recruiting Manager, Trent Mosbey, said that East would add speed and agility to the Club’s stocks, as well as excellent character.
“We are delighted to bring Dana to Richmond. She plays the right way and adds a hard edge to our midfield,” he said.
“She has clean hands and an ability to bring others into the game, particularly around stoppage.
“She has a great deal of AFLW experience, and also a lot of upside to continually improve her game at the Swinburne Centre.”
Richmond holds selections 1, 38, 56 and 63 at the AFLW National Draft set to be held next Monday. The Club is also armed with an additional third-round pick next season.
