Richmond has swooped on Vic Country utility, Baia Pugh with selection No. 54 overall at tonight’s Telstra AFLW National Draft.

Pugh, a 169cm runner from Wonthaggi, comes to the Club after an impressive first season at the Gippsland Power.

Mosbey said the talented youngster was quick to make the National Championships, such were the impressive signs she showed immediately in the Coates Talent League.

“Baia is an elite runner who has played a lot of sports growing up, but only just settled on football this year, where she really shone,” he said.

“She broke records for her 1500m running when coming up through the school grades and really shows that capacity when she plays.

“Baia has incredible agility and runs an elite 6:55 two-kilometre time trial. She can play wing, half back, or half forward, where she shows her dash and ability to win the football.”

Pugh averaged 14 disposals and six tackles per game for the Power this season.

“We are really excited by Baia’s potential and are thrilled to be able to bring her to the Swinburne Centre.”
