Patrick Retschko

To paraphrase one of Richmond ‘Immortal’, Jack Dyer’s classic “Dyerisms” during his football commentary days on radio, Patrick Retschko made a good debut last week, and an even better one this week.

Retschko, who was traded by Geelong to the Tigers for pick 99 on the final day of last year’s trade period, debuted against North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium in Round 6, finishing the match with 13 disposals, six marks, three rebound-50s, three tackles and 360 metres gained.

The hard-running wingman really upped the ante in Friday night’s big Anzac Day Eve clash with Melbourne.

He racked up 26 disposals (the third most by a Richmond player on the night), took four marks and had four inside-50s, three rebound-50s, five intercepts and a team-high 503 metres gained.

Retschko showcased his elite endurance over the course of the four quarters and capacity to find the football.

Obviously, it’s very early days yet, but Retschko may well prove to be a bargain buy for the Tigers.
