Kye Annand

Richmond’s mid-season rookie draft selection Kye Annand made a promising AFL debut in the Round 14 clash with Brisbane at Hobart’s Ninja Stadium.

The 200cm, 22-year-old key defender, recruited from Geelong’s VFL program, was a solid performer for the Tigers throughout the contest.

He finished the match with 14 disposals, five contested possessions, two marks, six rebound-50s, six intercepts, six one-percenters and 259 metres gained.

Annand’s closing speed to strongly spoil marking attempts by opponents and overall mobility across the ground, along with efficient disposal, were his key attributes on the day.

Acting Richmond captain Tim Taranto was really impressed with what he saw from Annand on debut at the game’s highest level.

“He’s slotted in so well. He’s one of the boys already,” Taranto told Richmond Media in a post-match interview.

“He’s a natural...looks like a good player.

“That was the first time, obviously, I’ve played with him and seeing him go about it, he made some good contests and looked at home.

“So, it was good to have him.”
