After a competitive start the Tigers had no answers for the Bulldogs, going down by 12 goals on Saturday afternoon in the VFL.

Footscray jumped out of the blocks as Lachlan McNeil drew first blood, before Louis Emmett and Jack Billings made it three goals on the trot for the home team.

19 minutes into the quarter, the Tigers finally got on the board as Maurice Rioli pounced on a turnover in Richmond’s forward half. But the Dogs finished the first term with the advantage and were ahead by 12 points at quarter-time. 

In the second term both teams kicked a goal inside the first seven minutes of the quarter and while Richmond were able to apply pressure and force some turnovers, it couldn’t capitalise.

On the other hand, Footscray did take its chances and pushed the lead out to five goals, before finishing the quarter strongly and taking full control at half-time, leading the Tigers by 42 points.

The Bulldogs maintained their dominance, kicking four goals to none in the premiership quarter and setting up a 66-point lead with a quarter still to play.

Although it hadn’t been their day to this point, the Tigers were looking to finish the game off well, starting the final quarter with a goal to Oliver Hayes-Brown. Nick Collier also slotted one as Richmond fought to lower the final margin.

But the Bulldogs came back with three of their own goals and finished the game as big winners.

The Tigers will be searching for a better result next Saturday afternoon against Port Melbourne at ETU Stadium.
