Richmond Football Club confirms that Sarah Hosking has played her final AFLW game for the Tigers.
Hosking played 49 AFLW games in yellow and black after arriving from Carlton via trade ahead of Richmond’s second season in the competition in 2020.
The 30-year-old provided immediate midfield strength and invaluable leadership to a young Tigers side from her first day at the Club, finishing inside the top seven in the best and fairest in each of her first three seasons.
Elected vice-captain from her first year at Richmond, Hosking remained in the leadership group throughout her seven seasons at the Club.
A popular and influential figure, she captained the Tigers for the first three matches of Season 7, helping lead Richmond to its most successful AFLW campaign to date, culminating in a fourth-place finish.
Hosking reinvented her game in the final stages of her career, transitioning from a tough inside midfielder to a defender last season.
The Mornington Peninsula product produced one of the year's highlights in Round 10 last year, taking the AFLW Mark of the Year and finishing with 13 intercept possessions.
Unfortunately, Hosking played just two games this year after a hamstring injury ruled her out for the first 10 rounds.
Before joining Richmond, Hosking played 30 games for Carlton as an inaugural Blue, including the historic 2019 AFLW Grand Final in front of more than 53,000 fans at Adelaide Oval.
Richmond CEO Shane Dunne thanked Hosking for her outstanding contribution to the Club.
"Sarah has been a terrific player for our AFLW program and an outstanding person around our football club from the very first day she arrived," Dunne said.
"She has been a tough, reliable and courageous player across seven seasons, while also leading the group as vice-captain for many seasons, and as captain when needed.
"Sarah should be incredibly proud of everything she achieved in yellow and black. She is immensely respected and admired by her teammates, coaches, staff and the entire Tiger Army, and we are incredibly grateful for the contribution she has made to our Club."
“I’m really grateful for my time at Richmond, I’ve absolutely loved being there for the better part of six years," Hosking said.
"Some of these friendships that I’ve made and broader connections and networks throughout the Club, I’m so grateful for how they’ve also shaped me as a person, not just what I’ve been able to do with my football, it’s as a person. I’ll be forever grateful for that space.”
