Richmond’s 2019 Anzac Eve guernsey design is inspired by Laurence Binyon’s poem, For the Fallen, and will be worn by the Tigers during the traditional Anzac Eve match against Melbourne, on Wednesday, April 24 at the MCG.

Designed by PUMA, Richmond’s on-field apparel partner, the guernsey features Morse code of the third and fourth stanza of the poem. The Morse code replicates the architecture of the walls of the Education Centre courtyard at the Shrine of Remembrance in Melbourne.

A written version of the poem is also featured on the front of the jumper, along with the Anzac logo.

The back of the jumper pays tribute to fallen Richmond players who died serving our country, or their death was attributed to war service.

The tribute includes the playing years of each fallen player, as well as their age when they passed away.

Richmond and Melbourne’s Anzac Eve match is now in its fifth year, and features a moving pre-game ceremony to honour both our past and current serving members of the Australian Defence Force, before the match gets underway at 7.35pm.

Fans can purchase their Anzac Eve Guernsey from the Tigerland Superstore. Anzac Eve memberships are also available, and proceeds from each guernsey and membership sold are donated to the RSL’s ANZAC Appeal, supporting our current and former serving men, women and their families, in times of need.

Richmond will continue its annual $5000 donation to the Shrine of Remembrance to support its important work commemorating service and sacrifice, and educating future generations. For more information about the Shrine of Remembrance, visit https://www.shrine.org.au/Home

For the Fallen – Laurence Binyon (third and fourth stanza)

They went with songs to the battle, they were young,
Straight of limb, true of eye, steady and aglow.
They were staunch to the end against odds uncounted;
They fell with their faces to the foe.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.
