Richmond has launched its first Women’s Football membership in the Club’s 134-year history, in preparation for its AFLW team from 2020.

The Women’s Football Foundation Membership was launched with the help of the Club’s inaugural women’s football membership holder, Ashleigh Barty.

Barty, the Women's Tennis Association's No. 12 ranked singles player, is a lifelong Tigers supporter and close friend of Richmond captain, Trent Cotchin.

The membership will offer Tiger fans the opportunity to forever become a foundation member of the Tigers’ AFLW team, set to enter the competition next year.

100 per cent of the profits from the Women’s Football Foundation Membership’s will support the Richmond Women’s football program.

Ms. Barty said she is excited to be the Club's inaugural Women's Football member.

“As a long time Tigers fan, I’m honoured to be the first Richmond Women’s member," said Ms. Barty.

"Led by 'Cotch', the Club has been a great support to me, and I’m excited to be part of their journey into the AFLW. Bring on 2020 and hopefully two Richmond flags!”

Richmond CEO, Brendon Gale added that the membership launch marks a new era for the Club.

“It’s wonderful to share our preparations and the excitement of entering the AFLW season in 2020 with the Tiger Army,” Gale said.

“Our members and supporters have given our men’s football program great passion and loyalty over our long history, so it’s exciting that we can offer new opportunities for them, as well as engage new fans to support our women’s football program.”

Supporters who join on the new membership this year will have the first opportunity to be recognised as Richmond AFLW Foundation members from 2020.
