Taking the first step can often feel like the biggest step towards leading a healthier more active lifestyle, but if you find your motivation that one first step can make all the difference no matter how little it may seem.

More than two thirds of Australian women are classified as sedentary, engaging in low levels of exercise. However, women demonstrate the strongest intent to increase levels of physical activity and are seeking out social and non-organised sport and physical activities. That’s why we’re proudly support VicHealth to help women across Victoria find their motivation http://bit.ly/1r0fXaV> and rediscover how good it feels to be more active in their day-to-day lives.

Make exercise social. Buy a pedometer or other step counting device and set yourself and friends a (friendly!) challenge to see who can get the most steps in a week.

Start a lunchtime walking club at work or schedule catch-ups with friends as a walk rather than a coffee. You can always reward yourselves with coffee at the other end!

Choose one day a week as your ‘cycle to work’ day and stick to it where possible so that it becomes routine.

Try a car-free day where you walk everywhere locally instead of driving further afield.

There are lots of other ways to incorporate exercise into your routine so that you’re more active, and everyone will have a type of exercise that works best for them. Keep experimenting until you find the activity that suits your lifestyle – and that you enjoy most!
