Richmond AFLW recruit Libby Graham is looking forward to becoming a cog in the Tigers' defensive unit.

The 25-year-old, who arrived at Tigerland from GWS via the trade period, will be an important addition to the backline in the absence of injured vice-captain and key defender Harriet Cordner.

"Looking at the group, you can just tell there's a good dynamic and vibe in the group," Graham said.

"It's a real upwards trajectory and I'm really excited to be a part of the defensive unit and work with some of those girls.

Graham, who has six AFLW outings to her name, is keen to learn off 2022 All-Australian squad member Rebecca Miller.

"To play alongside her and help her out in the backline... I'm really keen to be taken under her wing and for her to teach me a fair bit," Graham said.

She is already familiar with now-Tiger teammate Meagan Kiely, the two having we won a premiership together in 2019 when playing in the AFL Sydney competition.

A former soccer player, Graham's football journey started in 2017, the same year as the first AFLW season.

"There was a girls team that came up in my local area in Sydney and I joined that. I just realised how much I loved AFL and I thought I can really excel in this and work really hard," she said.

Graham, who stands at 176cm, considers her competitiveness to be her strongest trait, with her adaptability something she prides herself on.

"Winning those one-on-ones, that's what I like to do," she said.

"My run, aerial power, and being adaptable to what we need.

"If I'm needing to be a lockdown player, if I'm needing to run off half-back... Whatever the team needs, that's the role I want to play."
