Taj Hotton generated excitement for Richmond supporters on an overall bleak afternoon in last Sunday’s clash with North Melbourne at Hobart’s Ninja Stadium.
The highly-talented teenage forward-midfielder, taken by the Tigers with their third pick (No. 12 overall) in the 2024 AFL national draft, produced the best performance of his fledgling career at the game’s highest level.
In just his sixth senior appearance, he had 16 disposals, 10 contested possessions, five clearances, four score involvements and three tackles, playing predominantly forward, with some midfield time as well.
It was Hotton’s ball-handling ability, lateral movement, composure, and creativity, particularly by hand, that were particularly impressive features of his game.
He plays with a maturity way beyond his years and already is one of Richmond’s classiest performers.
There is plenty for the Tiger Army to look forward to with Hotton’s progress in 2026 and beyond.
