Injury Report: Round 7
Ben Serpell provides an update on the injury list ahead of Round 7.
Tom Lynch: Hamstring, available
“Lynchy's got through a body of training, and we've taken a conservative approach with him, given the age of the player and how important he is to the team,” Serpell said.
“We expect him out there this weekend.”
Luke Trainor: Knee, available
“From that game (Richmond VFL vs Australian U18 Academy), we saw Luke Trainor leave the field," Serpell said.
“As Ooze said in his post-match press conference, he sustained just a cork to that lateral side of his knee. Nothing too serious, and he was out training today, so we expect him to be available this weekend.”
Tim Taranto: Concussion, one week
“Tim came to the sheds at half-time (and) complained (of) a bit of dizziness,” Serpell said.
“We assessed him in the rooms for a head knock at that point, and unfortunately, he's going to have to go through the concussion protocols, and he'll miss this week.”
Toby Nankervis: Hamstring, 3-4 weeks
"Nank is doing really well, as I said a couple of weeks ago, his running was progressing quite well, with his strength not so. We have taken a bit more of a conservative approach there, but we still expect him back in around three to four weeks,” Serpell said
Maurice Rioli: Hamstring, 4-5 weeks
“We saw MJ come off the field with a hamstring strain in the second quarter,” Serpell said.
“We'd expect around about five weeks for that, and it is only minor, but he's such an explosive player that we want to be a bit conservative with that and take our time."
Harry Armstrong: Foot, 5 weeks
Jasper Alger: MCL, 5 weeks
“Both progressing well in the manner we like, and we can bring their return to play timelines forward to five weeks,” Serpell said.
'Playing for a purpose greater than us' - Vlastuin
Nick Vlastuin and Sam Grlj join the Bravery Trust at Coles ahead of the Tigers’ Round 7 Anzac Day Eve match against the Demons.
Josh Smillie: Quad, 4-6 weeks
“Josh is progressing reasonably well from a running perspective, as I said a few weeks ago, he's running fast, and he's running fast lots,” Serpell said.
“We're seeing slow progress in his kicking.
“We had repeat scans a few weeks ago, and things seem to be going quite well there. He's healing at a reasonably slow rate, and that's ok, biological healing occurs at a different rate for different people, and it's not an exact science.
“We've been here before with Josh, and we want to make sure that we set him up for success going forward. We want to see him come back to playing with that freedom and that explosiveness that he demonstrated at a junior level.
“We are going to be conservative with him. To be clear, there hasn't been any new incidents with Josh, we're just going to make sure that we look after him, and we're going to leave his timeline at four to six weeks."
Sam Banks: Collarbone, 6 weeks
“We saw Banksy go down in the first few minutes of the game against North Melbourne on the weekend,” Serpell said.
“He sustained a fracture to his collarbone and actually broke it in three places, so he's going to have a little bit of time on the sidelines and undergo surgery tomorrow.
“Normally that injury will take around about four to six weeks to repair, but given the severity of the injury, we'd expect the full six weeks at this stage.”
Zane Peucker: Syndesmosis, 5-7 weeks
“He was taken down in a tackle early in the game against the AFL Academy and sustained a syndesmosis injury,” Serpell said.
“It’s not too serious, but we still expect him to be out for five to seven weeks at this stage.”
Rhyan Mansell: Foot, TBC
“We'll get a scan on his wrist in the next couple of weeks just to make sure the surgery on the scaphoid has resolved, and hopefully in the next couple of weeks we'll see him come out of that boot and get into a bit of training,” Serpell said.
Taj Hotton: Hip, TBC
“Taj has had a few running sessions back now, and he's progressing really well and hopefully is back to kicking in the next little while,” Serpell said.
“Hopefully, we can have some timelines for him over the next little while.”
Tom Sims: Foot, TBC
“Simsy is getting involved in a bit of training, and it's only just a matter of weeks now before we get to see him training fully,” Serpell said.
“Hopefully, in the next little while, we can put some timelines to his return to play.”
Judson Clarke: ACL, TBC
"Judson Clarke is in Oregon this week, training at the University of Oregon with expert coach Jimmy Radcliffe,” Serpell said.
“We're expecting him to come back with some new tricks to his bow, and again, we're hopeful we can get some timelines of him coming back."
